Dicta MCP · included with Pro and Team

Let Claude or Cursor read your dictations, with no network involved

Dicta ships a tiny binary, dicta-mcp, that MCP clients like Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor launch themselves and talk to over stdio.

The local MCP server is included with Pro and Team, and it ships with the 7-day Pro trial too.

Shown, not told

There is no port to open and no listener running

The client starts the process, reads your dictation history read-only, and that is the entire surface.

How it works

stdio in, JSON-RPC out, nothing on the network

Your MCP client starts it, not the other way around

Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor launch the small dicta-mcp binary themselves, the same way they launch any other MCP server. Dicta never runs a background service listening for connections.

stdio only, no network listener at all

dicta-mcp speaks JSON-RPC over stdio, the pipe your MCP client opened to launch it. There is no port, no localhost socket, nothing on the network for another process to find or connect to.

Read-only, enforced by the binary itself

dicta-mcp opens your dictation history store read-only at the OS level; the process is never given a writable handle to it, so there is no code path inside it that could modify or delete your history.

Your audio is never exposed

The server can hand back dictation and meeting text, never audio. Recordings are not part of what it reads or returns, however a client asks.

Setup

Ready-to-paste config, right in Settings

Turn it on in Dicta's Settings and you get the exact configuration block your MCP client needs, ready to paste into Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor. The switch in Settings is not a suggestion the app makes to itself: the toggle is enforced by dicta-mcp itself, so turning it off means the binary refuses to serve anything at all.

Where you already work

Your agents can read back, in the tools you already have open

The same MCP clients you run every day, Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor, are the ones that launch dicta-mcp. There is nothing extra to open: enable it in Settings, paste the config, and your agent can search what you dictated without a single byte leaving the machine.

Local, always

Fully offline, like everything else in Dicta

dicta-mcp needs no network connection to do its job: it reads a local store and answers over the stdio pipe it was launched with. Whatever your MCP client does with the text afterward is between you and that client; Dicta's part of the exchange never touches a network.
