Dicta vs Fireflies: meeting analysis without the AI-credit meter

Last verified: 2026-08-16

The short version

Fireflies is the integration and conversation-intelligence heavyweight of this category, and its “AskFred” assistant ships a named BANT skill plus user-defined Topic Trackers, real framework-style analysis. The catch: unlimited transcription does not mean unlimited AI. AskFred, summaries and action items run on a monthly AI-credit allowance (20 on Pro, 30 on Business, 50 on Enterprise, with overage priced per credit), on top of a bot that joins every call by default. Dicta’s answer is the same class of analysis running on-device, with no bot and nothing metered, because on-device processing has no per-call cost. It is included in Pro at launch.

Where Dicta is ahead at launch

Fireflies proves the category is real: a named BANT skill and account-wide conversation intelligence are genuinely useful, framework-style analysis, done well. The catch Dicta is built to remove is the credit meter, AskFred and the rest of Fireflies’ AI features are capped monthly and billed per extra credit, while Dicta’s on-device analysis has no per-call cost to meter in the first place, so the plan is unlimited at every tier. No bot joins the call either, and the same MCP-based access Fireflies offers over the cloud is designed to run locally in Dicta instead.

Where Fireflies is stronger today

The honest headline: Fireflies ships real, working AI meeting analysis today, including capabilities Dicta has no equivalent for at all, like account-wide talk-time, sentiment and topic-trend analytics across every meeting your team has. Dicta’s on-device version is included in Pro at launch. If you need automated summaries, a BANT-style AI skill or a searchable archive today, Fireflies does that now and Dicta does not yet. Beyond the timing gap, Fireflies also has by far the widest integration catalog in this category, dedicated team and admin features, and support across web, Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and Chrome.
