Is there a free version?
Yes, and it is the real app, not a teaser. Free gives you unlimited dictation on the full-quality model, 25 languages auto-detected and tuned hardest for German and English, running on-device, forever. No card, no account. Paid unlocks the AI layer on top: the rewrite, per-app styles, Select and Speak, Privacy Mode, Dicta Transcribe, and the local MCP server.
Which languages does Dicta understand?
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Hungarian, Greek, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Russian, and Ukrainian, 25 in total. Detection is automatic per utterance, so there is no language setting to flip. German and English are the pair we tune and benchmark hardest.
What does Pro add over Free?
Pro is where the AI lives. It adds the always-on on-device rewrite that removes filler and tidies structure, five per-app writing styles, Select and Speak, Privacy Mode, your full custom vocabulary, Dicta Transcribe, and a local MCP server so Claude or Cursor can read your dictations and meetings, localhost-only. Dicta Meetings is included too, from launch. One license covers every device you use. Pro is EUR 5/month or EUR 50/year, and every bit of it runs on your Mac.
Is there a student discount?
Yes. Verified students get 50% off Pro: EUR 2.50/month or EUR 25/year. You confirm your student status at checkout, and the app is identical to Pro.
Can I pay once instead of subscribing?
Yes. The Lifetime pass is EUR 150, one payment, a lifetime license of Dicta Pro, every future Pro update included. It does not include Team features (admin portal, seats, feature control, the shared company dictionary), since those run on our server infrastructure and stay an annual Team subscription. That is the launch price, valid until December 31, 2026; the price rises after that, so buying now locks in the lowest it will ever be.
What does Team add?
Team is everything in Pro plus an admin portal and seat management: invite and remove members, manage licences, keep billing in one place, publish centralized dictionaries and rules so shared vocabulary and replacements reach every seat without anyone's dictations ever leaving their device, and full feature control, so admins centrally decide which features their users get. It is EUR 80 per user per year, annual only.
What is Dicta Meetings?
Dicta Meetings is local meeting transcription and AI notes, fully on-device. It is included with Pro and Team at no extra cost, and it ships at launch. Nothing about a meeting leaves the machine it was recorded on.
What is Privacy Mode?
Privacy Mode hides your dictation history, statistics and meeting transcripts behind a placeholder the instant your screen is shared, and restores them the moment sharing ends. It is on by default and included with Pro and Team.
What is Dicta Transcribe?
Dicta Transcribe turns audio and video files you already have into text, entirely on your Mac, with progress you can watch and cancel without losing what has already been transcribed. It is included with Pro and Team.
What is the local MCP server?
A tiny binary, dicta-mcp, that tools like Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor launch themselves and talk to over stdio, no network listener involved. It gives them read-only access to your dictation history, never your audio. Included with Pro and Team.
How does the referral program work?
Every account gets a personal referral link. Share it, and when someone you referred starts a paid subscription, you both get a free month, up to 3 referral months per account.
How many devices does one license cover?
One license covers your devices, everywhere you type. Activations are platform-agnostic under a fair-use device cap per seat: Mac ships at launch, and the same one license follows you to Windows and the iPhone keyboard as they come soon.
Is Dicta really cheaper than the alternatives?
Pro is about half the price of the leading alternatives, the AI rewrite is included and local, and nothing is metered. We do not print their prices here because they change and because ours is the point: on-device inference costs us nothing per word, so we do not have to charge you like it does.
